Red Bend Software Selected by ZTE Corporation to Enable Mobile Software Management for WiMAX Devices
1 Deal is a First to Allow Over-the-Air Software Updates of WiMAX ModemsBEIJING, February 4, 2008 – Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management and Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updating solutions for mobile devices, today announced that it has been selected by ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, to provide device management and firmware over-the-air updating software for ZTE’s mobile PC modem and home gateway modems for WiMAX networks. The agreement marks the first time that Red Bend’s market-leading mobile software management solutions will be used in WiMAX devices.
“As operators increasingly adopt WiMAX, they are requiring greater management control over the wireless devices attached to their networks, particularly devices like PC modems which are generating high-value data revenues,” said Zhang Junhai, GM of Wireless Data Terminal Products of ZTE Corporation. “We chose Red Bend to provide firmware updating and device management capability for ZTE’s WiMAX products because of their proven performance in remotely managing mobile software and their strong support for industry standards.”
Red Bend’s market-leading vCurrent® Mobile for firmware updates and vDirect Mobile™ for device management enable operators to provision configuration settings, perform software maintenance and deploy new features to mobile devices over-the-air. Operators benefit by reducing customer support costs, avoiding product recalls and improving consumer satisfaction with their mobile services.
“Teaming with ZTE Corporation, a world leader in WiMAX, opens exciting new opportunities for Red Bend in the mobile market—both in China and globally as operators increasingly invest in WiMAX networks,” said Danny Wang, Country Manager of Greater China for Red Bend Software. “Not only are we expanding into new types of wireless networks, we are also proving the value of mobile software management for all types of devices including mobile broadband PC modems and home network gateways.”
The ZTE agreement is the second major deal for Red Bend in China. In May 2007, Red Bend announced an agreement with T3G Technology, a leading TD-SCDMA handset chipset maker, to integrate Red Bend’s vCurrent Mobile FOTA solution onto T3G’s mobile phone reference design platform.
Red Bend’s mobile software management solutions have shipped on 255 million mobile devices worldwide from leading manufacturers including LG, Motorola, Sharp, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba, NEC and others. Red Bend’s software is interoperable with device management servers compliant with Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standards. Ovum, a leading independent market research firm, recently named Red Bend the FOTA market share leader, powering 49% of all new FOTA-enabled mobile phones.
