Combined Solution Enables Cable Operators to Leverage the HFC Network to Deliver T1 Business Services and Mobile Wireless Backhaul

WESTFORD, Mass. and BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Narad Networks, Inc., a provider of high performance switched broadband access solutions, and Axerra Networks, the Pseudo-Wire Company(TM) and a leader in providing circuit emulation and service emulation solutions over packet access networks, today announced the availability of their combined Pseudo-Wire solution for delivering T1 voice and data services to business customers over the cable operator’s hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network.
The combined solution meets the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) T1 specifications and offers operators a highly scalable solution for delivering business class T1 services in dense business nodes supporting up to 200 T1s per node and up to 500 T1s per node later this year. Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire customer premise equipment is connected through Narad’s Ethernet-over-coax network to a Pseudo-Wire aggregation device at the headend that can support up to 1000 T1 circuits in a single chassis.
"Working together with Narad we are able to offer operators a complete solution that finally enables cable providers to leverage their HFC reach to SMBs and mobile wireless cell sites with a competitive T1 solution," said Joe Ashton, Vice President of Sales, Americas for Axerra Networks. "The combination of Axerra’s multi-service Pseudo-Wire with Narad’s capacity-enhancing Ethernet-over-Coax solution delivers a highly scalable range of T1 services with the reliability, security and low-latency that SMBs and mobile wireless providers expect."
"We’re very pleased to work with Pseudo-Wire technology expert Axerra in offering a reliable and highly scalable solution for T1 delivery over coaxial cable," said Michael Collette, Narad Networks CEO. "Cable operators have been asking for Commercial Voice solutions that they can use to penetrate the very large and very lucrative T1 market. This combined solution fills a large and important product and service gap between Commercial DOCSIS, which often do not have sufficient return path capacity to provision T1s, and Fiber, which is cost-prohibitive for the broad T1 market."
Axerra Networks’ family of AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways and Access Devices(TM) furnish full-service capabilities over the HFC and fiber infrastructure of cable networks, including leased line T1 PCM Voice, T1 Private Line Data, Ethernet Private Line, native Frame Relay, ATM, HDLC, and IP services. The low latency and high-precision clock recovery features of Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solution support the most demanding applications of the T1 Business Services and Mobile Wireless Backhaul markets. The AXN family is a scalable solution that addresses SMB locations and cell sites, MTU and Hubs, and the carrier-class CO environment.
Narad’s Ethernet-over-Coax solution provides up to 100 Mbps x 100 Mbps of additional bandwidth over each coaxial cable span. In combination with Narad Ethernet switches, these 100 Mbps symmetrical links can be switched onto the coax plant at multiple points to provide Gigabits of symmetric bandwidth per node. Narad’s switched Ethernet-over-Fiber solution provides Gigabit fiber capacity while making optimally efficient use of existing fiber plant. Narad’s Ethernet-based outdoor switches support fiber, coax and wireless inputs and outputs.
About Axerra Networks
Axerra Networks is the leading provider of Pseudo-Wire circuit emulation and service emulation solutions over packet networks. Axerra’s AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways and Access Devices(TM) enable cable MSOs, mobile wireless operators, competitive access providers, and incumbent carriers to extend IP + legacy data and voice services in native format over Ethernet, IP, and MPLS networks. The result is greater operational efficiency, new revenue opportunities, and a smooth migration strategy to a single converged network, without stranding any revenue streams from profitable legacy services. With Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions, service providers can convert any packet access network (Carrier Ethernet, broadband wireless including WiMAX, cable HFC, xDSL, etc.) into a full-service alternative to TDM access.
